Floating removes the stress that gravity places on the body. Who benefits? | Tory Urban Retreat

Business people

  • Helps to eliminate stress
  • Counteracts problems caused by poor posture
  • Promotes creative whole brain thinking
  • Increases concentration
  • Improves sleep patterns
  • Strengthens feelings of well being
  • Contains detoxifying Epsom salts

Meditation, creativity & learning

Being inside the floatation tank takes your brain from highly conscious alpha and beta waves to solid theta waves—the kind you would normally have right before falling asleep and just after waking up. Normally we only experience these theta waves for a few minutes, but having extended theta periods helps us to visualise better, often giving us vivid mental images. These theta waves can be a great tool in problem solving and exploring a deeper and more creative self.

Athletes

Sportsmen and women from many varied athletic disciplines use floatation to get the most out of their training routines or to speed up recovery from injuries. In fact, the Team GB, Golden State Warriors and Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) see the use of the float tank as an integral part of its athletes’ training regimes.

  • Accelerates recovery from injury
  • Ideal space for visualisation
  • Increases energy (ATP)
  • Reduces lactic acid
  • Boosts immune system

Pregnant women

Pregnant women get enormous relief from the soothing water and the complete support that it offers. It’s a unique and wonderful haven to escape to – some describe floating as being similar to being in the womb! Floating is very comfortable in the later stages of pregnancy, thanks to the way it alleviates the stresses that gravity places on the body when carrying. It provides wonderful relief on the body where it is under extreme duress while carrying – especially the back, legs and feet. Not to mention how calming it is on the nervous system as pregnancy can sometimes be a trying time.

We ask that you get permission from your midwife or healthcare provider to float as we are not always aware of every individuals health conditions.

Sufferers of pain & other ailments

Floating causes the body to release endorphins (the body’s own painkiller) and, in particular, beta-endorphins. These are more powerful than many prescription drugs. Sufferers of migraine, back pain, arthritis, skin disorders, insomnia, PMS, Fibromyalgia and other ailments can find relief from regular floatation.
